Today’s blog will be a short one.
We left North Sioux City, SD and ended in Kansas City, MO. Not to be confused with Kansas City, KS. Apparently, not telling them apart is a big thing here.
We came to Kansas City to pay tribute to those who have fallen and gave, as Abraham Lincoln would say, “The last full measure of devotion.” We visited the World War I Museum and Memorial.
Under the glass bridge as you enter the exhibit are 9,000 silk poppies. Each of these poppies represent 1,000 service members who died from around the world fighting in The Great War. 9 million people. It is a humbling experience to visit this location. At the peak of it is an observation tower. We took the elevator to the top. It was at this time that we found out that there is also 45 steps to the top. Ralph and Vaughn made it like champs. I was very proud of them. The views are amazing.
We then are settling in for the evening. Tonight, is a night of rest and reset. Tomorrow, Omaha, Nebraska.
